TREASURESEASON THE RUSH

For at least four years, the close-knit duo of David Powell and Jess Bartlet has been making dreamy indie-pop under the guise Treasureseason. Despite their creative longevity, new single ‘The Rush’ is the first from the London pair we’ve picked up, and that’s probably because this track is simply brilliant. Rich in ‘80s pop aesthetics, ‘The Rush’ oozes tropical vibes from the outset aided by summery beats and retro synth-work. The spacious, starry guitars and Bartlet’s mellow-toned vocals give this track an addictive cosmic shimmer indicative of the best of the dream-pop genre. Digging below the surface of chilled instrumentation and stylish lo-fi production, the lyric content hints toward emotional turmoil with repeated unanswered questions towards a silent significant other. It’s clear that over the years, Treasureseason have carefully developed a coherent, ethereal and entrancing sound we hear in ‘The Rush’. Look out for their forthcoming XY EP. - HT
